TWRA — Comic Poster
We extended the visual identity we created for The Waffle Robot Army into a standalone illustrated poster, drawing on the client’s love of classic comic books and vintage war artwork.
The project gave us the chance to experiment with a different way of drawing and finishing the artwork. We mixed bold ink-style linework with halftone shading, distressed print effects, aged paper textures and deliberately imperfect details to recreate the character of an old comic cover. The TWRA universe was reimagined as an exaggerated battlefield scene, with soldiers, a tank, explosions and waffle robots surrounded by hand-drawn lettering and comic-book dialogue.
It was a particularly fun piece to develop because the final image depended as much on texture, print treatment and drawing technique as the illustration itself. Rather than simply applying the existing TWRA branding to a poster, we used the format to explore a completely different visual language while keeping the humour and personality of the wider brand intact.
